Ravine Cemetery is located just outside of downtown Sylvania, Ohio and it is here, in this quiet neighborhood cemetery, that stories of a phantom bride has captivated the imaginations of many for over 50 years.
The story of the ghost bride entered northwest Ohio folklore in the 1970s when a cemetery caretaker shared his knowledge of the legend with a friend, who, in turn, shared it with a Toledo Blade newspaper reporter.
The legend involves the spirit of a woman who returns to the cemetery to visit the graves of her former husbands, three of them. It is said she will appear at dawn on the anniversary of either their death or their marriage, no one is sure which.
There are many, including me, who suspect this legend is based on an actual person but, so far, the identity of the ghost bride remains a mystery.
